Our history and heritage
Brookside Church began as a church plant from Hilltop Church in Earley in the early eighties. The original birth of the church can be traced back to two women from Wycliffe Baptist Church starting a Sunday School in their home in Hilltop Road. Momentum grew and a building was acquired from which a new church was born. Mission to children and families is written into our DNA from the very beginning. At one period under the pastoral leadership of Arthur Nye, the church had a Sunday School of around 200 children meeting in the Coronation Hall in Woodley.
During the late 1970's, the church's second pastor Eric Bird and his team of elders were to oversee a powerful move of the Holy Spirit, the fruit of which included a period of sustained growth. A prophetic word was given resulting in our current building opening in 1984 and Brookside was one of nine congregations located in and around Reading and Wokingham.
Originally part of what was known as King's Church - Reading, Brookside became an independent church in 2001 and has since enjoyed close working relationships with the churches and charities of Earley, Wokingham, Reading and nationally. Brookside is a member of the Evangelical Alliance.
