Cultivating a fresh passion for corporate prayer
The experience of Christian living over a period of time should teach us that our own efforts are simply not enough. When we do finally realise this, one of at least two things can happen. Sometimes we just give up and settle for a level of mediocrity and the status quo. Alternatively we might do as many of my teachers advised in my end of term reports;
“must try harder!”
Whilst a commendable attitude – and we do need people who will give and serve relentlessly – trying harder does not change people’s lives or situations. Only God can act in a way that touches the very core of people and their needs. He will probably use other people to help provide solutions but the fact of the matter is,
prayer changes things.
If I am honest I have been put off prayer at times because at first it can change things for the
worse! I remember giving myself to a week of prayer and fasting for one of my children and things got worse incrementally every day – and I got exhausted! So there’s a good bit of exhortation for you to come and pray with us on Sunday evenings!
In my time involved in church leadership we have been at places of significant breakthrough and change on many occasions. At many of these junctures things have suddenly gone “pear shaped” and what promised to be great has ended up in disappointment. Possible because we naturally put so much weight and hope into our own efforts or even other people.
I want to learn to pray together with a new dynamic and passion.
I want to be excited by hearing God in a prayer context and they turn His words back into prayer.
I want to experience much more of His kingdom leaking from our lives.
I want to see the daily restoration and revival of each of us that own the name of Jesus.
We each gather clutter and rubbish in our lives. We grow tired and weary, relinquishing hopes and dreams. We feel disempowered to see change.
God calls us ‘heirs’ and ‘ambassadors.’
If nothing else, praying together is acknowledging our need of God and the Holy Spirit’s help if fulfilling all he lays before us. Come and join us for the hour we’ll be spending in prayer together during these autumnal months each Sunday evening from 7.00-8.00pm. Come with an expectation to actively engage in hearing God’s voice and participating in prayer together. Come with a grateful heart, thanking Him that we are free and able to join together in our building.
Let’s learn afresh how to pray and see the breakthroughs and restoration that only God can work.
