Brookside Church - About Us
Loving God ... Loving others
Jesus was once asked, 'What is the greatest commandment?'
He replied very simply
'love the lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbour as yourself'.
Brookside church is a group of people seeking to follow this commandment. To demonstrate love to one another both within our church family and in the communities where God has called us to live and work we do this by....
Amazing Love
We are a church made up of a wide range of people and ages, located in and around the east of Reading. We enjoy experiencing the amazing love of the God described in the Bible and when we meet together it is important to us to give thanks to Him. This experience inspires us to make His love tangible by caring for and serving our neighbours and those who have needs that can go unmet.
Father's Heart
We value diversity and the contribution anyone can make to church life and into the communities around us. We believe we are to be good news to everyone and our desire is that our expression of being church should be both relevant and sacrificial. Our growing passion is to pursue God and to know Him as the Father He is. We are grateful for His grace and favour, despite our failings.
Jesus Centred
We are also grateful to God for His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s because of Jesus we have hope for our lives today and a future that is secure beyond this life. We are learning the nature of who we are and the new identity given to us through the complete life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Priest’s Together
We encourage participation and initiative, knowing that the Holy Spirit fills people and empowers us to fulfil roles that we don’t necessarily naturally rise to. We are committed to helping every Christian exercise their roles as God’s priests, or representatives in today’s world as well as among the church community.
History and Heritage
Brookside Church started as a church plant from Hilltop Church, Earley. This was back in the early eighties and was the result of a prophetic word and a period of sustained growth – the fruit of a powerful move of the Holy Spirit. In 1984 our current building was built adjacent to Brookside Group Practice. Originally part of what was “Kings Church Reading,” Brookside became an independent church in 2001 and has since enjoyed working relationships with the churches and charities of Reading Christian Network (RCN). We also work closely with local Earley Churches in reaching out to families, young people and children.
Leadership model: Relational and Environmental
The Brookside Leadership Team (BLT) is committed to a style of leadership that is ‘relational.’ That is it’s a priority to operate as a team together, sharing our lives and being real. We are aware that God has made us with a range of needs and so we are open to acknowledge these together. At the same time we are determined to be ‘environmental.’ It’s not our responsibility to control what happens in the church or people’s lives but rather to recognise what God is doing and saying. We aim to nurture and protect this environment and to see it grow everywhere the Holy Spirit leads us and opens up to us. We also aim to help equip people in their service to God and people. |
