Brookside in the Local Community

Community is not simply a term for a group of people or families living in an area close together. We can experience community whereever social interaction exists in an environment such as where we work, study, or spend leisure time. Community is enhanced where there are shared goals and purpose. We now live in a global community because of the massive growth in communications. At Brookside we believe that church should be at the heart of community development and this, whether locally around where we have our buildings, across the Reading area in initatives and with organisations that are serving targeted communities and further afield across our nation and even the nations.

We are increasingly becoming an outward looking church that looks to meet the needs of those around us. We believe that Jesus Himself came into the world because of His Father, God's great love for us. He literally became flesh and blood to rescue humanity and similarly the church is tasked with the same mandate - to put flesh and blood on our words and actually do something that contributes to the well being of any community we are able to become part of.

This is good news!

We believe that as a church we are to focus on helping to bring more of God's Kingdom, with its values and power, into the communities we are part of. Our experience has been that as we do this, the Holy Spirit takes care of building a church among us that can further enable, equip and sustain us as we go.
