Mission Communities
Our world and our lives have changed radically in the last twenty years, but as the church, have we adapted to this change? Are there changes we need to make in how we 'do' church to address the new reality of our changed world?
In response to these questions we have been on a journey of review and reflection at Brookside and know that we are to follow others in developing and releasing Mission Communities; that is groups across our congregation with a mutual commitment to both being a disciple of Jesus and making disciples. We are convinced of our need to be more intentional about both!
"A Mission Community is a group of people equally committed to being a disciple of Jesue and making disciples." - HELEN TAME
There are a number of ways this might be expressed or defined but we like what follows!
“A missional community is a group of Jesus’ apprentices who so trust his brilliance and mastery of life, that they learn from him how to be like him for the sake of the world. Through this apprentice/master relationship, the community journeys together to become the fullness of God and thereby become a finite earthly expression of the infinite Tri-Community just as Jesus was in his earthly life. A missional community is about becoming by grace what Christ is by nature. As the wider community experiences this, wherever the community members live their daily lives, they are learning how to easily, naturally, and routinely embody, demonstrate and announce God’s life and reign for the sake of the world around them.” (Jason Zaharides).
