The read Family in Korea

History:

Stuart's family first attended Kings Church in 1980 when we were meeting in Maiden Erlegh School shortly before Brookside was built. He grew up as part of the Kings Church youth, became a believer in 1984 and was baptized at Brookside in 1985. It was while Stuart was away at university that he first felt the call to missions which eventually led him to join Frontiers and move to Tunisia in 1994.

While living in Tunisia, he met Jung Hwa, who was serving as a missionary with OM. Stuart and Jung Hwa were then married twice! Once in Jung Hwa's home church (Jooan Methodist Church in Incheon) and they held a second ceremony at Brookside a few months later (you know, just in case).

Later that year, Stuart and Jung Hwa returned to Tunisia for about a year before moving to Korea in September 1997. They have lived in Korea since then serving as missions pastor at Onnuri Church in Seoul, helping to launch Frontiers in Korea, and since October 2007 planting a church for English speakers in Incheon with Jooan Methodist Church.

Their son Jacob was born in January 2006. Jung Hwa is Korea's number one Cliff Richard fan. Stuart is Korea's number one Liverpool fan. And Jacob has probably seen WALL-E more times than anyone else in Korea (if not the world!)

Current Update:Stuart writes:

In the summer of 2007 we were approached by Jung Hwa's home church (Jooan Methodist Church) to start an English language church in the city of Incheon (a city of 2 million). God confirmed this was his will to both of us and we moved from Seoul to Incheon. We found that there were several English Bible studies in churches in Incheon , but no home church with an ex-pat leader that catered for English speaking Christians - most Christians living in Incheon either travelled 2 hours to Seoul each Sunday for church, or just didn't attend church at all. This also meant that there was no vision or effort being made to reach the 30,000 English speaking non-Christians in the city. It is for these two reasons that our church now exists.

The name of our church is "Word of Life International Fellowship" and you can find out more about us at our website: jooan.or.kr/wol. We upload videos of the sermons each week and you can read my "Pastors Blog" on there too. Since we started the church we have made many wonderful friends who are so grateful that God brought this vision to start a church for them. We are also starting to see some people getting saved too. May God bless us in this way more and more!
